Model note- 2020~ KTM SXF/XCF/XC and Husqvarva FC/FX/TX fuel injection 2-stroke and 4-stroke models have a factory fitted capacitor stock which will allow these bikes to be bump/hill started and run if the battery is dead. However, the 2018~ KTM XC-W/XCF-W/EXC-F/EXC and Husqvarna TE/FE/FES 2-stroke and 4-stroke models do not have a capacitor fitted stock and require a BLS capacitor to bump/hill start and run if the battery is dead.
TBI Model note- KTM XC-W, Husqvarna TE models the 2024 BLS Capacitor Kit has a longer wiring harness allowing the capacitor body to be installed in the space behind the battery on the left side, under the seat. The BLS capacitor will allow the engine to start by hill/bump starting and run with a completely dead battery. Note that the engine light may flash while the battery is dead, even if the the BLS Capacitor is fitted. Once a good battery is fitted again the egine light flash will stop (no reset required).
Three options are available: 1) BLS Capacitor kit (standard length wire harness), 2) 2024 BLS Capacitor Kit (long length wire harness) and 3) BLS Capacitor Kit with PreCharge Harness. The 2024 model has a longer wirke harness to allow the BLS capacitor to be placed behind the battery in the space to the left of the OCM and is recommended for TBI models. The PreCharge harness option allows connection of a 9V battery (not included) to precharge the BLS Capacitor and allow more consistent kick starting. A diode is used in the harness to protect the 9V battery the engine is running. It is recommended that a new 9V battery is kept in your backpack, or airbox and connected if the motorcycle battery dies and kickstarting is required. The PreCharge Harness is not required for TPI motorcycles which do not have a kickstarter fitted (E.g. 2020 TPI models) and can be hill/bump started easily without the PreCharge Harness. The BLS Capacitor kit includes a capacitor assembly (50V, 105degC rated capacitor, dipped to weatherproof, with wiring and 6mm terminals) and zip tie to secure the capacitor during installation and i. The capacitor has two wire connections: Red must be connected to the battery +ve terminal and Black must be connected to the battery ground terminal. The BLS capacitor may be installed permanently, or temporarily during a battery issue. Following a start the engine will run normally even if the motorcycle battery is totally dead, or removed. The electric start will not function when the battery is dead, or removed. Weight of the kit is approximately 65g.
